Our Philosophy
At Wild Wonders Play School, we believe that children learn best through play, connection, and exploration. Our program is rooted in the understanding that early childhood is not a race to "readiness", but a time for wonder, discovery, and growth.

We follow a truly play-based, child-led approach - not one disguised as play with adult-driven outcomes, but one that honors children as capable, curious learners. There are no worksheets, no rigid lessons, no unnecessary sitting still. Instead, we offer time, space, and freedom for children to follow their own ideas, ask their own questions, and solve their own problems - all with nurturing guidance and thoughtful support.

Our days are spent outdoors in all weather - and we mean that. Children quickly learn how to adapt to the weather changes, how to recognize what their bodies need in various temperatures, and how to be resilient - no days are "bad" days, we just need to get creative on what we do and embrace the differences that each season brings.

We use an emergent curriculum, meaning our days unfold as the children explore their interests and their needs change. As teachers, our role is to observe, listen, interact, reflect - then respond. When the kids were obsessing over worms, we started a worm farm and talked about vermicomposting. When the leaves started to change, we read books about trees and made predictions about which tree we thought would fully change first.
When we notice a child is struggling with drop-off, we come up with a solution, working closely with the parents. When the children want to roughhouse, we give them a space to do so safely and collaborate with the children to come up with ground rules. When a student is seeking a particular sensory input, we plan invitational activities that provide the needed input.

When something isn't working, we change the system, the environment, our approach. We don't continue fighting an unnecessary battle because we need to finish a unit in a curriculum book. We don't confine children to one center at a time, we don't tell them what to think, what to do, or how to be.

We know that true learning is social, emotional, sensory, and deeply personal. And we trust that the play children engage in now is building the foundation for every academic, interpersonal, and life skill they’ll need in future. We want to send children to school ready to learn, able to voice their needs, and able to participate as a member of a new community with kindness and respect, while still bringing their individuality to the table. This means they need to be ready physically, emotionally, and socially - that is the goal.

Wild Wonders is more than a preschool program - it’s a place where children are trusted, nature is embraced, and learning happens in the most meaningful way possible: through play.
